How to stand out in an intership or new job? — Bryan Keihl

Few months ago, I was still in college trying to finish the semester with the best results possible, in order to start a new chapter of my life full of surprises and challenges. I was and still excited for this chapter, because I am going to be able to show and prove myself that I am capable of great things and there is no limits when your hunger for the success is bigger than your fears. I am pretty sure that for a computer engineer or software developer, a huge step full of risks and fears is when you do an intership for a company or start working for the first time, exactly in that moment is where the question how do I stand out in this new job or internship? shows up in your mind, at least that is what happened to me.

How do I stand out?, this is a valid question to ask yourself everytime you start a new intership, job or whatever experiencie that involves more people. Based in my working experience and also in the experience I have been acquiring in Pernix Solutions, there is multiple things you can do to stand out but, most of them will be shown to you day by day by co-workers and teammates, of course some of them you will have it, you may think that you do not , but is the same actions you have been doing to stand out in the school, high school, college and even with your friends and family.

Since day one in Pernix, they give you useful advices to improve this kind of skills, based on that I made a summary with all the best things you can do to stand out in almost every environment. It is important to be proactive and take initiative from the very beginning. Get to know as many people as possible and be friendly and personable. Be involved in company events and activities, and volunteer for tasks and projects. Show that you are a team player and are willing to go the extra mile. Be confident and assertive, but not aggressive. Be professional in your appearance and in your work. Pay attention to detail and be organized. Take the time to learn about the company and its culture, and be sure to follow company rules and procedures. Finally, don’t be afraid to take risks. Be bold and try new things. When you’re willing to take risks, you’ll stand out from the rest.

Most importantly, be yourself, be genuine and always keep in mind to treat everyone in a respect way.
